Welcome to my website! We are a tiny hobby farm located in western Oregon.
- for some reason weebly is moving my photos around, so some may not be correct-
I have used WADDL’s lab/urbl for the Small Ruminant Biosecurity screening for CAE, CL & Johne’s disease for several years. Due to increased costs for whole-herd testing, the lack of reliability of the Johne’s & CL blood tests, and my confidence in the disease-free status of our herd, I will not be doing whole herd CL & johne's blood screening, but do plan to do pooled fecal PCRs to screen for Johne’s and will culture any abscesses if found(have not had one).
I have a flock of silverudd’s blue chickens with a few cream legbars, friesian mare and filly, sarplaninac LGD's and Nigerian dwarf goats.
Most of my pages on this website are for my herd of goats. My nigerian dwarfs are registered with the American dairy goat association and my herd name is “purplerain”.
My goat addiction started with just two does from Camanna petite paradise.
Its been a few years since the first two goats arrived. Yes the goat math.... I now have a larger herd that sometimes reaches up to 30 adults/keeper kids (2024 the number is 34 yikes). Over this number I feel I can’t provide the one-on-one attention while also working a full time job. So, I will have adults/kids available that are usually on the for sale page.
I seem to like Castle rock and old mountain farm lines. These lines are in a lot of my goats pedigree.
I try to balance milking ability with good conformation. Conformation is what I look at first, then follow with being able to supply enough milk to feed kids. If a doe cannot produce enough to feed even quads then she doesn’t stay here. I do not feed for production though as I can not hand milk constantly and I have never actually made a profit, to be able to afford a milk machine. New for 2024, I have purchased a milk machine and will be offering Milk for craft/pet use to help pay for my feed.
My 2024 kidding season is almost over. I do have a few 2023 kids still available along with a few does.
